Ian is a passionate English Teacher. Ian studied at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, before going on to a career in English teaching. He was Head of English at Leeds Grammar School, Sevenoaks School and Dulwich College before retiring in 2009. He was an editor of The Use of English from 2003 to 2011. Ian Brinton has written books on Dickens and Emily Bronte, and is the author of Contemporary Poetry Since 1990 (Cambridge University Press, 2009) and the editor of A Manner of Utterance: The Poetry of J.H. Prynne (Shearsman, 2009). He co-edits the occasional review, SNOW, with Anthony Barnett, and serves as an adviser for the Cambridge University Poetry archive. He is the Reviews Editor for the modern poetry magazine Tears in the Fence and has recently published translations from modern French poetry for Oystercatcher Press. He is also the Web Manager for the English Association’s Discover War Poets site.
